Before you go
Write down your main questions, any allergies and the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. If you have symptoms, note when they began and what makes them better or worse. Ask the office ahead of time if you need an interpreter. MedlinePlus on talking with your doctor has more tips.
During the visit
Start with what matters most to you. Be honest about what is happening, including difficulties following an earlier plan. Ask for unfamiliar words to be explained and request written instructions if those would help.
Before you leave
Check how you will receive test results, when to follow up and who to contact with questions. A trusted person can come with you and help take notes if you would find that useful.
