  • 38 Weeks Pregnant

    At 38 weeks pregnant you can start getting very excited since you have only have a few more weeks to go. You can expect this last month to be spending a lot more time in your providers office with appointments scheduled weekly. You will also notice more frequent or intense Braxton Hicks contractions which can be painful at times. Sometimes women will experience impatience, irritability, oversensitivity, restlessness, or even relief you are almost there. Some women also begin to nest at 38 weeks pregnant. The nesting instinct causes frantic restless behavior until she feels everything is in order. Though your intentions are good there is no way you can expect to get everything done before your baby arrives home.

  • 36 Weeks Pregnant

    At 36 weeks pregnant, you are probably feeling ready to explode; however you can take comfort that while you may technically have at least 5 weeks left, if your baby were born today, it would be considered full-term and healthy. You will also likely be going through some bodily changes are well.

    At around 36 weeks pregnant, you will notice that your baby has dropped a bit which will increase the pressure on your hip bones as well as bladder, making walking a bit more difficult. However, you will gain some breathing room because baby is not so squashed against your stomach and lungs. You may also notice that your breasts may start leaking in anticipation of birth.
    Another thing that will happen when you are about 36 weeks pregnant is that your baby could start to turn and present itself with its head toward the cervix area. Because of this increased pressure in your nether regions, as mentioned above, you could also experience hemorrhoids in addition to the increase in urination.

    This stage in the game, at 36 weeks pregnant and on, you will have weekly doctor check-ups to monitor the baby’s position as well as all of your vital signs like blood pressure and weight. If your baby has not turned properly or is not facing in the proper presentation for birth, your doctor at this point may try to physically turn your baby by manipulating the stomach.

    At 36 weeks pregnant, you should have your bag packed for the hospital or plans set in place if you are giving birth at home. You will also note that at around 36 week pregnant, you will start getting a burst of energy. This is called the nesting instinct and you will probably end up cleaning your house, cooking extra meals to store in the freezer and putting last minute touches to the baby’s nursery while you have the energy to do it.

    There are a lot of changes going on in your body and 36 weeks pregnant is about the pivotal point when things start coming together – both biologically and in your environment. Just take cues from your body as to what you may or may not feel like doing.

    At 32 weeks pregnant you are almost there with one month to go until the birth of your new baby. If you haven’t considered breastfeeding here are some benefits for both you and your baby. Breastfeeding is considered to be the optimal way to feed your baby. Also at 32 weeks pregnant you might be worrying about post baby weight. Nursing is known to give a speedier recovery back to your prepregnancy shape. Not only does breastfeeding shrink your uterus back to prepregnancy size, but it also helps burn off the fat accumulated during your pregnancy.

    Some women already know at 32 weeks pregnant that they will not be breastfeeding their baby, but instead bottle-feeding. Most mothers who prefer bottle-feeding enjoy the idea of the father sharing the responsibilities of feeding your baby. Mothers find that they have more freedom with bottle-feeding. They don’t have to worry about pumping, dietary restrictions during breastfeeding, and stress of waking up in the night to feed where if she was bottle-feeding someone else could feed the baby.

    By 32 weeks pregnant most women know if they will be breastfeeding or bottle-feeding their baby. If you are undecided try breastfeeding first and if you find it’s not for you can always switch to bottle-feeding. Only you know what’s best for you & your baby, and you need to be comfortable. Your first few weeks home with your baby will be the most difficult to adjust to a system and schedule that works for you and your baby, and having a supportive husband and family can make things a lot easier for you when you are home with the new baby.

  • 31 Weeks Pregnant

    You are almost there into your eighth month of pregnancy, 31 weeks pregnant, and preoccupied with excitement & anticipation of your baby’s birth. You increasing belly is about the size of a watermelon now. Your baby is just about 18 to 20 inches in length and weighs just about 5 to 6 pounds. Your baby will start to gaining approximately ½ an ounce daily. Your baby’s final touches are now appearing such as creases around their wrists & neck, and dimples on knees & elbows. At 31 weeks pregnant your baby’s lungs are almost fully developed, and any baby born now has an excellent chance of being born completely healthy.

    Physically at 31 weeks pregnant you may notice regular strong fetal activity, pelvic pressure or achiness, itchy abdomen, and an increased shortness of breath. Shortness of breath particularly happens in the last trimester due to the expanding or your uterus which puts pressure on your diaphragm, and crowding your lungs Sometimes you also may have leaking from your nipples of a premilk substance but this might not appear until after your baby’s delivery. Stress incontinence is common at 31 weeks pregnant. This is when women start to leak urine usually after a laugh, cough, or a sneeze. Pressure of your growing uterus onto your bladder causes this leakage of urine.

    At 31 weeks pregnant travel safety is important to all expecting mothers. Some recommendations when traveling in your eighth month of pregnancy are getting plenty of rest, and make sure you have the name, phone number & address to your provider and the hospital you will be delivering at. Driving up to your delivery is okay as long as you can still fit comfortably behind the wheel, and not experiencing dizziness or other symptoms that can cause unsafe driving. If travels are long distance you might want to consider bringing along your spouse, family member or friend. This way if you happen to go into labor you will have someone with you.

  • 30 Weeks Pregnant

    At 30 weeks pregnant you might find an increase of fatigue, overheating, clumsiness, fetal hiccups, sciatica pain, and RLS restless leg syndrome. You would be drinking a sweet glucose drink one hour prior to having blood work drawn to test to see if your body’s producing enough insulin to offset the extra glucose in your body. Depending on those results you may follow up with a glucose tolerance test which after fasting you would drink a higher concentrated glucose drink. This 3 hour test is used to diagnose gestational diabetes.

    Premature labor may also be a concern at 30 weeks pregnant. Some causes for premature labor are; smoking, alcohol use, drug abuse, inadequate weight gain, poor nutrition, standing for long periods of time, heavy physical labor, sexual intercourse, infection, imbalanced hormones, incompetent cervix, placenta previa, chronic maternal, illness, emotional stress, fetal abnormalities, or a history of premature deliveries. Low birth weight is common in premature babies. Approximately 8 out 100 newborn babies have low birth weight which would be 5 pounds 8 ounces. 1 out of 100 babies have a very low birth weight of 3 pounds 5 ounces. If you feel at 30 weeks pregnant that there may be a possibility of having a baby with a low birth weight bring this concern to you providers attention. Reassurances can be found with either an exam or an ultrasound that you growing and developing at a normal pace. By the end of your seventh month you baby should weight about 3 pounds and be about 16 inches long. You now have 10 weeks left in your pregnancy and it is important that you prepare yourself for the weeks to come, and take care of yourself.

  • 28 Weeks Pregnant

    Expecting mother’s 28 weeks pregnant you are now entering your third trimester. Approximately your uterus is about 11 inches long, and the baby weighs approximately 3 pounds and is 16 inches long. They may also consist of being trapped, attacked, death, gaining too much weight, becoming unattractive, or labor.

    Many new mothers 28 weeks pregnant worry about approaching all of that responsibility of handling being a new mom, possibly working, keeping your house in order, and being a loving supportive partner. Most mothers can’t succeed in it all without losing their sanity, sacrificing their health or sometimes even their marriages can suffer. Prioritize the different parts of your life, and prepare as well as you can. Then make decisions and depend on them, and no matter what not letting them become unrealistic. These worries and fears are normal, and if you can sort them out and deal with them now your transition into real life parenthood could be easier.

  • 26 Weeks Pregnant

    Sleep is going to be very important once you are 26 weeks pregnant. Pregnancy takes a toll on your body, so you need to make sure that you get plenty of rest. However, with constant trips to the bathroom and difficulty finding the right position, it may be difficult for you to sleep. You may want to consider getting a special pregnancy pillow to help you get more comfortable at night. They are easily affordable and can help you get the quality rest you need.

  • 23 Weeks Pregnant

    In your sixth month ending your second trimester and are now 23 weeks pregnant. Many people are terrified of hospitals and find that taking a tour of the place where they will be giving birth to their baby comforting. This can also help with any anxieties you may have with childbirth. By finding out about possible complications, hospital procedures, medical interventions, different methods of pain relief it can also help reduce fears, improve your decision making skills, and prepare most women for pain, and labor and delivery. Some childbirth classes you may consider taking at 23 weeks pregnant include Lamaze and Bradley. Lamaze teaches you the use of relaxation and breathing techniques for women in labor. It also shows how your spouse can give continued support throughout the labor. Lamaze is designed to help with concentration, and advise mothers of comfortable labor and birthing positions, breathing, and distractions. Bradley is when the spouse coaches the delivery by using exercises to ease the discomforts of pregnancy by preparing the muscles for birth and nursing afterwards.

  • 20 Weeks Pregnant

    Halfway through your pregnancy you are now 20 weeks pregnant. Well into your fifth month and your second trimester. Physically you may be experiencing leg cramps, the appearance of varicose veins in legs, hemorrhoids, changes in the color of your skin on face or abdomen, a naval that’s protruding, and swelling of face, hands, ankles and feet. Other parents that wish to keep things the old fashioned way will opt not to find out and keep it a surprise for the day their baby is born.

    By the end of this month your baby’s fetus is approximately 7 to 9 inches long and weighs approximately a pound. The baby’s muscles strengthen, nerve networks expand, and the skeleton continues to harden which means the fetus is more active and coordinated. It also helps in the baby’s growth and development of motor skills.

    These movements are strong enough to feel now. The appearance of eyebrows and hair on the baby’s head is visible, as well as the baby’s ears are well developed and able to recognize sounds. As a mother you may notice your hair and nails are growing faster during your pregnancy. There are also different ways a woman can carry being 20 weeks pregnant. You can carry higher, lower, bigger, smaller, wider, or more compactly which depends on the shape or size of your body as well as how much weight you have gained.
