Influenza

Influenza:  an acute viral infection of
the respiratory tract, occurring in isolated cases, epidemics, and pandemics,
with inflammation of the nasal mucosa, pharynx, and conjunctiva, headache,
and severe, often generalized, myalgia.

Symptoms:

Cough – initially nonproductive, – later, producing purulent sputum

Marked  cyanosis

Dyspnea (difficulty breathing)

High fever

Chills

Substernal pain and discomfort

Frontal headache

Myalgia

Treatment:

Antipyretics – for fever

For influenza A – amantadine

Endotracheal intubation and ventilator assistance
